Our mini-lesson: Our mini-lesson focused on teaching addition to grade one students. We wanted to focus on using a lot of visuals in order to assist students to understand the foundational concept behind how two numbers can be added together to amount to a larger amount. To make the lesson more engaged, we also wanted to allow students to be able to come up to the smartboard and show their thinking and reasoning to the rest of the class.
How can Smart Boards be used in my future teaching practice?
Smart Boards are a great alternative to whiteboards. The lessons taught on Smart-Boards can be adjusted and created in a way that makes learning more engaging, creative, and fun. There are many lessons that have already been created on the smart-board app, teachers can look through these lessons and find the ones that cover topics that they may want to teach; teachers can always adjust the lesson so that it fits what they want to teach. Smart-Boards are a convenient alternative to whiteboards as there are lessons that are already created and there are more options as to how lessons can be taught (dragging images, adding audio, and etc).
